Hi! I provide individual therapy to adults who are looking for someone to support them through tough emotions and life changes. I live in Asheville, NC and can see people in North Carolina in person or via videochat, and people in South Carolina via videochat. I'm licensed in NC and I have a telehealth license registration in SC.
I have in-person availability on Fridays, and virtual availability mostly evenings. At this moment, I can only take new clients who want to meet every other week, though availability can change!
Ok, with the basics out of the way, why would you want to start therapy with me? Maybe you feel like you are a "misfit" in some way - either you're an immigrant and adjusting to a new culture, you're neurodivergent and feel like the world isn't made for your unique mind, or you just don't feel like you fit in. It can help a lot to have someone non-judgmental on your side to feel safe and accepted while you work through complicated feelings and finding your people.
More about you (maybe!):
a smart and analytic person who wants to better understand and cope with your emotions
you're a parent, especially of young children, and it's stressful
"mommy issues"/"mother wound"
work in healthcare or other helping professions
you feel like a "highly sensitive person" or you're wondering if you are Autistic or have ADHD - or you already know you are
you feel like you are not "heard" or "seen" by people close to you enough (or at all!)
you experienced something traumatic and you want help working through it so it doesn't affect your life so much
If therapy with me sounds like a good fit to you, or you have questions, you can contact me either by email: amy@amydixlcsw.com, or phone: 828-417-4226.
An update (December 2025) is that I've recently let my Illinois social work license lapse, and gotten rid of my Psychology Today page. I'm glad you've still found me here!

I started a Substack! You can subscribe for some random and I hope helpful musings!
